New Work by Sarah Kaye Rodden
We’re delighted to introduce new drawings by British artist Sarah Kaye Rodden. Working primarily with traditional materials and historical techniques, Kaye Rodden is drawn to processes that connect her to centuries of artistic practice.
In this new collection, she explores silverpoint and goldpoint—techniques that date back to the Renaissance. Using a metal stylus on specially prepared paper, each mark leaves a permanent trace of silver or gold that cannot be erased. Kaye Rodden works with a stylus that is an exact replica from Rogier van der Weyden's Saint Luke Drawing the Virgin, along with an antique gold hairpin for the goldpoint drawings.
The drawings depict objects from Kaye Rodden's studio—vessels and forms that frequently appear in her sculptural work. Through these ancient techniques, she explores her relationship with still life while working within a centuries-old tradition.
