Terms and Conditions

Application Fees
- A non-refundable application fee of $30 per artwork applies. The total fee is $60 if submitting two artworks.
- 100% of application fees will be put towards the production costs of the exhibition.
- No refund will be issued if an artist registers an entry and later withdraws their application, or if a submission is sent past the deadline.
- The maximum number of entries per artist is two artworks.
- Submissions are capped. Artists are advised to apply early to ensure their application is received.
Eligibility
- Entry is open to artists aged 18 years or over.
- Artists must be based within the Greater Los Angeles Area. Applications submitted from outside the Greater Los Angeles Area will not be considered for selection.
- A maximum of two artworks may be submitted.
- Artwork dimensions must be no smaller than 11 × 14 inches and no larger than 24 × 30 inches.
- All works must be original paintings created by the submitting artist and completed within the last three years.
Artwork Guidelines
- All submitted works must be paintings and may be created in any medium.
- Works must meet the size requirements stated above.
- All works must be original and completed within the last three years.
- By submitting work(s), the artist confirms that each artwork is in a condition suitable to withstand normal handling and display at Francis Gallery.
- All paintings must be professionally presented, and suitably finished and framed (if applicable).
- Selected works for the exhibition must be correctly fitted with an appropriate hanging mechanism.
- Artworks should be signed, and dated on the reverse.
- Uploaded images must be titled using the following format:
01 / 02_FULL NAME_ARTWORK TITLE_YEAR OF CREATION. - Francis Gallery reserves the right to decline or remove any artwork from the exhibition if it may expose the gallery to reputational harm, legal risk, or infringement of third-party rights, including intellectual property.
Image Guidelines
- Artwork submission images must be no larger than 5MB and 300dpi.
- Artwork should be photographed against a plain white wall with no other artworks visible.
- Images must accurately represent the artwork in color, composition, and texture, as they will be used for the selection process.
Prizes
Francis Gallery is offering two cash prizes to exhibitors:
- The Francis Award for abstract painting – $15,000
- The Clara Award for figurative painting – $15,000
An external judging panel will select both prize winners, and prize money will be awarded within 30 days of the exhibition opening via direct deposit/ACH transfer. Winners must complete a W-9 form for tax purposes, and a Form 1099 will be issued by the gallery. Prize money is taxable income for the winner.
Selection
- This exhibition strives to support, engage and convene the Greater Los Angeles artistic community and provide exhibiting artists with the opportunity to reach new audiences.
- Selections will be made by a panel consisting of Francis Gallery representatives and independent curators/artists.
- Selected artists must confirm their participation within seven calendar days. Delivery instructions for Francis Gallery Los Angeles will be provided upon confirmation.
- If selected works arrive damaged, inadequately framed, incorrectly sized, or materially different from the submitted images, they will be withdrawn from the exhibition.
- Withdrawn works must be collected by the artist at their own expense.
- The panel’s decision is final, and feedback cannot be provided.
Sales
- All exhibited works must be available for sale with a minimum price of $800. For pricing guidance, contact summer@francisgallery.com.
- Artwork prices submitted must be the final sale price and include the gallery's 40% commission (artist receives 60%).
- Francis Gallery reserves the right to discuss pricing with artists, and will confirm any price changes in writing before the exhibition opens.
- Any sale made by Francis Gallery during the exhibition period (including collection day) takes precedence over private sales.
- Artists will be notified of sales at the conclusion of the exhibition.
Delivery & Collection
- Artworks must be hand-delivered to, and collected from, Francis Gallery on Melrose Avenue on the specified dates (June 29 – July 3, 2026). Delivery via courier or postal services will not be accepted.
- Artists may appoint another person to deliver or collect the work on their behalf.
- Selected artworks must be delivered unwrapped with the relevant forms and labels provided by the gallery. All packaging must be removed at delivery.
- Unsold works will only be released for collection between September 15 – 19, 2026 upon presentation of the gallery's collection notification email.
- Francis Gallery cannot store artworks after the exhibition closes.
- Works not collected by the specified deadline will incur a daily storage fee of $5 payable by the artist.
- Uncollected works remaining after 30 days will become the property of Francis Gallery and may be disposed of at the gallery's discretion. By submitting to this exhibition, artists agree to these terms.
Liability
- Artists are responsible for insuring their own work during transit to and from the gallery.
- Francis Gallery maintains insurance coverage for works while in the gallery's care during the exhibition period, up to the submitted sale price.
- In the unlikely event of loss or damage, compensation is limited to the artist's portion of the submitted sale price (60%).
Privacy Policy
- Francis Gallery is committed to protecting personal information. Data collected during the application process may include name, contact details, address, email, telephone number, and images of artwork.
- Payment information is processed securely through Stripe and is not retained by Francis Gallery after transaction completion.
- Personal information is used for application processing, exhibition administration, and to contact artists regarding their application, submitted artwork, and exhibition-related matters.
- Francis Gallery may share personal data with service providers as necessary for exhibition purposes (e.g., payment processing, shipping) under confidentiality agreements.
- Artist data will be retained for up to one year after the exhibition concludes and then securely deleted.
- Francis Gallery will photograph the exhibition for promotional purposes, including social media, website, and press materials.
- Selected artists' names and artwork details will be published on the gallery's website and social media platforms. Contact information will not be publicly shared.
- By submitting an application, artists consent to this documentation and use of their information.

Agreement
